These terms keep Connect4.Chat simple and safe for everyone. By filling out the survey or using this site, you agree to them.

What Connect4.Chat is

Connect4.Chat is a free, volunteer-run initiative that pairs University of Michigan students for in-person conversations with new friends, 1:1 or 2:2, based on interests, hobbies and identity. It is an independent project, not a service operated by the University of Michigan.

Who can participate

Connect4.Chat is for University of Michigan students with an active uniqname. One survey per person. Answer honestly. Pairings are only as good as the answers behind them.

The pledge

Everyone who signs up makes the same pledge: show up curious and respectful. This is not a dating platform. You are meeting a new friend, and both of you should feel safe. Harassment, hate, threats, or treating this like a date have no place here. If someone pressures you or makes you uncomfortable, tell us through the contact form and we will stop pairing them. Break the pledge and we may decline to pair you, or stop pairing you, and we won't always be able to warn you first.

Matching

We create pairings from survey answers and your identity preference (gender, politics, religion, or no preference), and send them to uniqname@umich.edu (or the email you gave us), or by text if you asked for that. We do our best, but we cannot guarantee a match in any given round, a particular kind of match, or that your match will follow through. If we cannot pair you in a round, we will let you know the same way.

Your conversations are yours

We make the introduction; everything after it is between you and your match. Use good judgment as you would with anyone new. A public spot on campus is a great place for a first conversation. Connect4.Chat is a space for dialogue, not counseling or professional advice. If anything about an interaction concerns you, tell us through the contact form.

Run by volunteers

Connect4.Chat is run by volunteers and provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for interruptions to the service, for a missed or imperfect pairing, or for what is said or done in conversations between participants.

Privacy

How we handle your answers is covered by our privacy policy, which is part of these terms. The short version: your answers are used only to pair you and to reach you. They are never made public, and never shown to your match beyond the short bio you choose to share.

Changes

If these terms change, we will update this page and the date at the top. Using the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
